The COVID-19 pandemic has further emphasized the need to provide and protect the flexibility and support necessary to address the needs of Hispanic students in our education system.
That’s why LIBRE-TX is working to protect educational opportunities for our students—through various avenues such as charter schools and virtual education.
Our officials should pass legislation that will allow more students in Texas’ Hispanic communities to receive an education that meets their unique needs by ensuring local governments do not unfairly implement red tape to limit the operation of charter schools.
Lawmakers should also look to expand educational options for Texas’ Hispanic students by removing enrollment caps for virtual learning. Enrollment caps were intended to limit the size of classes in physical buildings and should no longer apply if the learning is happening virtually.
Lawmakers can ensure our Hispanic families and students have the freedom to explore learning environments that provide the foundation for a successful future.
