Georgia’s Special Needs Scholarship program, also known as the Senate Bill 10 waiver, has been in place for almost 14 years.
While the program has proven tremendously successful and provides a necessary lifeline to families of children with special needs, time has revealed areas of improvement that will simplify the original program and allow for more accessibility as originally intended.
Senate Bill 47 addresses several unintended shortcomings of the original legislation, which has kept some students with special needs from taking advantage of the program simply because they did not meet a technical requirement.
SB 47 reduces barriers that keep special needs students from participating in this program, so more students with special needs can access the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship and get the support they need to be successful.
