Corporate welfare benefits the few at the expense of the many, and rewards companies for their political connections rather than the value they create for customers. Tell your elected officials to stop handing out your money to big companies!
These harmful policies seriously distort the economy and create an uneven playing field, all while leaving Florida taxpayers to pick up the tab.
According to a study by Good Jobs First, Florida sends the bulk of these ‘incentives’ to large companies, while smaller entrepreneurial shops get far less. Sixty-nine percent, or $93 million, in taxpayer handouts in 2014 went to larger corporations – which often have little in common with the typical Hispanic business. In fact, 90 percent of Hispanic businesses are one-person entrepreneurial outfits, a figure markedly higher than the national average.
Over time, these favors to special interests expand and become more entrenched, driving a gap between the rich and the poor and creating a two-tiered society. In order to address this growing inequality, Hispanics in the Sunshine State must demand an end to Corporate Welfare.
