Occupational licensing is keeping too many people out of work.
Too many aspiring workers are being kept from building a better life for themselves and their families because they need government permission to work. Occupational licensing laws force people to complete months of expensive training, pay fees or pass exams before they’re allowed to work.
Licensing disproportionately impact industries that hire Hispanics and low-income people. Jobs that could be the first rung on the ladder to success have strict licensing requirements, keeping Latinos and others from finding work.
It’s time to stop this outdated practice. Strict licensing requirements don’t make anyone safer, they keep people from working. I support ending unnecessary licensing rules.
